hi there!

Lovely to meet you.

Jen Hoffmann here. My hometown is known as the Sweetest Place on Earth (Hershey, Pennsylvania), but I happily called Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania home for 6 years. This year, I checked another Pittsburg(h) off of my list by moving to Pittsburg, Kansas. (No, the irony is not lost on me either). Although a bit smaller than my former burg(h), it’s a blast learning about this amazing part of the country while working remotely for several incredible companies.

After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in December 2016 with a B.A. in Media and Professional Communications, I proudly worked for my alma mater! These days I love working remotely for Modsy, an innovative and data-driven interior design company.

Professional experience

MODSY, Design Stylist

October 2019 - Present

I'm passionate about working for companies that provide innovative solutions to everyday challenges. As a Design Stylist for Modsy, I'm able to use my love of interior design to work with clients and provide recommendations that help them create the home of their dreams. Working in a remote role requires a high level of self-discipline, time management, and clear and consistent communication with team Leads.

University of Pittsburgh career center, marketing & Communications Coordinator

January 2017 - February 2020

After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in December 2016, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to work for my alma mater as the Marketing and Communications Coordinator for Pitt's Career Center. In this role, I orchestrated all marketing efforts for the office via collaboration with 27 staff members to support and serve 28,000 students. Through the creation and distribution of a high volume of digital, print, and environmental design, I focused on our digital and physical presence on campus. Developing innovative techniques to connect digitally with students was a rewarding challenge that has encouraged me to think critically and strategically - all for the success of Pitt students. After working in the office full-time for 2.5 years, I transitioned into a freelance role upon moving to Kansas.

Stitch fix, stylist

March 2019 - January 2020

As a Stitch Fix stylist, I loved having the opportunity to create a personalized experience for each client through fashion consultation and advice. Ensuring each client felt (and looked) their best was my top priority in this role. Each week I set and followed my weekly schedule to remotely style clients, ensuring company quantitative and qualitative metrics were surpassed. Maintaining timely and consistent communication with my Lead through email and Google Hangouts was imperative.

PRE-PROFESSIONAL experience

University of pittsburgh student affairs marketing office, marketing & Communications intern

September 2014 - December 2016

Interning with the Division of Student Affairs Marketing and Communications Office was one of the most evolutionary experiences of my college career. In this role, I met several professional mentors and solidified my love of marketing. I was able to support the mission of the office by contributing to marketing campaigns through the use of photography, videography, graphic design, writing, and social media content distribution. Additionally, I played a key role in the revitalization of the new Student Affairs website launched in March 2016 by collecting and organizing copy, improving user accessibility, and adding content using WordPress.

QVC, FREELANCE Production assistant

June 2016

As a freelance Production Assistant for QVC, I supported QVC Executive Producers at InventHelp's INPEX, America's Largest Invention Trade Show. I loved being able to connect with producers through the coordination and organization of interviews while consulting and preparing interviewees for their time in front of the camera.

tailored marketing inc, associate web designer

May 2016 - August 2016
My knowledge of WordPress increased exponentially during this summer while I worked as an Associate Web Designer for Tailored Marketing. I transformed four client websites and played an integral role as a member of the creative team.

velvet moth photography, photography intern

January 2015 - May 2015
In Sydney, Australia, I had the opportunity to work with an incredible team at Velvet Moth, a photography studio, to learn the ins and outs of running a business. Collaborating with my supervisors to enhance and solidify the studio’s brand and promote an increase in clientele through graphic and video creation were among my top internship responsibilities.

Here’s What I’ve Been Up To:

Fall Career + Internship Fair STEM | At the University of Pittsburgh Division of Student Affairs Career Center (formerly known as the Office of Career Development and Placement Assistance), I’ve had the opportunity to rebrand some of our key events including our Fall and Spring Career + Internship Fairs. The rebrand included print and digital graphics, strategic email marketing, targeted snapchat filters, and ad targeting. This print graphic is targeted towards our STEM majors.

Office of Career Development and Placement Assistance Annual Report | A small, but mighty team worked together to highlight the Career Center (formerly known as the Office of Career Development and Placement Assistance) with the 2017-2018 Annual Report. Collaborating with a few peers allowed each of us to emphasize our personal strengths on this project. My days were spent designing the entire report, organizing content, and writing student success stories. I’d love for you to take a peek here!

Careers in Sports Panel | For a panel targeted to students of any major interested in working in sports, I chose to highlight Pittsburgh’s black and gold for print and digital graphics.

Global Entrepreneurship Week | Working in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University and multiple departments at the University of Pittsburgh on Global Entrepreneurship Week has been a true delight. I was trilled to be able to provide graphic design and digital marketing support for such an important week.

Creative Arts Series | The Career Center staff spends a lot of time envisioning weeks that highlight events for different student populations. It has been an exciting challenge to connect with each of these dynamic student groups to promote each day’s unique schedule.

Pittsburgh Kaleidoscope | Sparked by a love of Pittsburgh, bright colors, and unique patterns, and recognizing a gap within Pittsburgh Instagram accounts, I created @pittsburghkaleidoscope. With a growing fanbase of 650+ followers, I hope to continue to grow the account and share my love of Pittsburgh through captivating designs with a strong community.

Pitt Student Affairs | Creating content is one of my favorite hobbies, which makes it even more of a treat when I get to design intriguing content for my job. As an intern in the Student Affairs Marketing Office, I was able to contribute to the @pittstudentaffairs Instagram account with fun graphics like the leafy-cathedral post above.
